About Us
Gender Central, Inc. is a not-for-profit (501c3) entity that is concerned with eliminating the high incidence of gender-based violence committed against women and girls in the Anglophone Eastern Caribbean, with a primary focus on the twin-island nation of St. Kitts-Nevis. This includes domestic violence, sexual violence, and potential problems of prostitution and trafficking.
St. Kitts & Nevis
Gender Central Inc. is based in St. Kitts & Nevis - the small twin-island country (population approx. 56,000) in the Eastern Caribbean. In March 2019 it was voted by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council as the best sustainable tourism destination on the planet! This is great news and it would make us equally proud as a society if we got international recognition as a small nation state that is making huge strides to ending violence against women and girls.
What We Do
Education Workshops
Knowledge is power and education leads to knowledge. However, education is more than credentials. Those who may not have had the opportunity to complete formal education, but might otherwise have experiential knowledge, combined with social education, deserve equal respect.
Often they are organic leaders in our communities, and we have a lot to learn from each other. Gender Central supports these organic intellectuals and activists and values their skills and collaboration in our efforts.
Public Sector Engagement
Gender Central works with civil servants in the public sector, personnel at manufacturing work sites and corporate entities across the region. As agents of socialization in our society, these institutions are at the forefront of engaging a wide cross-section of their communities and are key in our efforts to bring about a shift in the behaviors and attitudes of men and boys.
Community Outreach Programs
Gender Central's reach extends beyond the city centers, to connect with health clinics, community and childcare centers in the rural communities of St. Kitts & Nevis and the Caribbean.
Our Mission
Our aim is to educate women through multiple frameworks how to exercise their agency in multiple sites, whether at home, school, at church, in the workplace, in public or private, to become self-sustaining individuals whether within or outside of any kind of long-term relationship or marriage.
