About Our Story
GenCen believes all women can embrace who they are, can define their future, and can change the world. We work to establish programs that educate women on how to not become dependent on men but rather to be self-sustaining whether within or outside of any kind of long-term relationship or marriage. Gender Central is committed to the eradication of violence against women and girls, and to disrupting manifestations of toxic masculinity.
Ending Violence Against Women and Children
Violence is learned behavior.
Children, for example, learn violence from many sources: via television, in schools from their peers, in the home where they sometimes witness the abuse of their mothers by their fathers or other male figures, just to name a few. If we begin to teach our children that violence is not about power but rather about weakness, fear, insecurities, feelings of inadequacy, and really low self-esteem we can really turn these behaviors around as we begin to properly socialize the next generation. Gender Central will also take these lessons into the adult community.
Empowering Women & Girls Across the Region
GenCen offers gender education workshops across the region, geared towards engendering a shift in the understanding of how women and men relate to each other. These workshops will also engage the ways in which girls and boys are socialized to marginalize and demean women. Ultimately, at GenCen our goal is to stem the high tide of homicides of women as victims of domestic violence.
